I don't belong to the 9 hour working rule

Brief introduction about me:

I have been part of many Enterprise applications with hands on experience in Core Java, Spring, Hibernate, MySql, MongoDb, maven, tomcat
I have also worked on HTML, Javascript, Android, Eclipse plugins, RCP in the past, though I am currently not working on it.
My domains include IoT and automotive domain

Now let's speak about the title :D
If you are employed you might easily catch this phrase "9 hour", if you still didn't get it then let me elaborate it for you. Usually in many industries you need to work for a specific number of hours to mark your full day attendance, this is no difference for an IT industry with which I am associated.
I am from India and the working hours in Indian IT industry varies across companies, many MNC's maintain a timeline of 8.5 - 9hours in office, but most of the times employees will have to stretch beyond the 9hour deadline due to hectic works, deployments, time difference due to client located at different part of the world.

Now lets come to the topic about why I don't belong to this 9 hour rule. As per routine 9 hours schedule few hours goes for lunch, snacks, rest etc. In my previous organization most of the time used to be spent on client meetings, integration meetings, status calls, stand up meetings etc. This is perfectly fine, but what am I lacking here?
I am not able to learn new stuffs, face new challenges and ending up preparing my path for a managerial guy.  Any guy who wants to explore new things, want to face challenges everyday would not want to do this routine stuff.

So I started hunting for more challenges, places to learn new stuff and work on new stuff and I came across Toptal. As their page heading says "Apply to Join our Network of Top Freelancers", I wanted to join them to explore more and be a part of their talented pool
